DESCRIPTION
The Bentley 3 Litre is one of the most important British sports cars of the pre-war period and laid the foundation for the brand's motorsport history. Its technically advanced three-litre four-cylinder engine already had an overhead camshaft and four valves per cylinder. Victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1924 and 1927 made the model an icon and shaped Bentley's reputation as a manufacturer of fast and enduring sports cars.
This Short Chassis Sports Tourer left the Bentley factory in 1926 and received its open sports body from Vanden Plas. Remarkably, the original body and three-litre engine are still on the original chassis today. The vehicle was registered in the United Kingdom under the registration number YN 9348 and was initially delivered to C. G. Baxter. Its history is also documented in the standard work "Bentley: The Vintage Years".
In 2014, the Bentley was extensively mechanically restored for around 70,000 euros. The associated invoices are available. At the same time, it was deliberately refrained from removing the patina that has grown over decades, so that the vehicle today presents itself in a pleasingly authentic and largely unchanged condition. The combination of matching numbers, original Vanden Plas bodywork and traceable history makes this Bentley 3 Litre an extraordinary contemporary witness of the vintage era.
The historic model data and Le Mans successes are confirmed by the Bentley Heritage Archive.
