In March 2020, Bugatti introduced the Pur Sport variant of the record-breaking Bugatti Chiron. Limited to just 60 units, the Pur Sport is designed to be more agile than the ‘standard’ Chiron, and features an increased 6,900rpm redline, as well as a revised transmission with 15% closer gear ratios.
 
It is powered by the quad-turbocharged 8.0-litre W16, with 1,479bhp and 1,180lb-ft of torque available between 2,000-6,000rpm, which is delivered to the wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with paddle shift. Shorter gear ratios mean the Pur Sport’s top speed is reduced to 218mph, as opposed to 260mph in the original Chiron, though it can launch from 0–62mph in just 2.3 seconds (0.1-seconds faster than the full-fat model), from 0-124mph in 5.5 seconds, and from 0-186mph in under 12 seconds.
 
The Pur Sport is 50kg lighter than the regular Chiron, due to the use of a lightweight 3D-printed titanium exhaust, a fixed 1.9-metre rear wing, thinner rear window glass, titanium brake pad backplates, less sound deadening, and extensive use of Alcantara, anodised aluminium and titanium on the interior. Externally, it has a new front clamshell featuring heavy use of visible carbon fibre in the more aggressive front splitter, which improves airflow, downforce and cooling.
 
Fitted with unique ‘aero blade’ spokes, the magnesium wheels are designed to channel turbulent air towards the rear diffuser, and come fitted with specially developed Michelin Sport Cup 2R tyres as standard, increasing lateral grip by 10%. New over-wheel vents also help to increase downforce and release excess air pressure.
 
To improve handling, the springs were made 65% stiffer at the front and 33% stiffer at the rear, aided by revised damper tuning and wheel camber, as well as additional front and rear carbon-fibre anti-roll bars. The Pur Sport also features an all-new drive mode called Sport Plus, which will allow the driver to reach greater drift angles without ESC interference.
